The Urban Context

The world is experiencing an urban crisis. More than half of its people live in cities. Most of this growth is massively concentrated in the urban areas of developing nations. Between 1950 and 2030 the populations of cities in the global south will have grown by 309 million. It is predicted that by 2030, two thirds of humanity will live in cities and this will rise to 80% by 2050. Migration to urban areas is most rapid in Africa and Asia.
